While we as a nation are rejoicing yet another hundred from the maestro, i just thought i ll take a moment and try and look back at the Sachin i had grown up watching, back in the early 90s to how things are today.
Definitely, the batsman trio that dominated world cricket were Sachin, Lara and Mark Waugh.
Some might feel Waugh is not at the same level, but i disagree.I think he is one of those batsman, who can decimate any attack on his day, much like the other two in the list.
It has always been a delight to watch Laras trademark shuffle and full blooded drive with all that follow through, or a caressed on drive from Waugh.But the fact remains that this is 2010, and along with Sachin stand two other competitors for the top slot, Dhoni and Ponting.Will Sachins Bludgeon down the ground stand its ground against a Ponting Hook or a Dhoni Forehand?Time will answer, but it neednt, as it will be Eras before such records are surpassed.
In memory of every single cricketer, who will play every game in his life knowing that they could never become the greatest cricketer ever, as that spot is occupied by....well.... GOD.
